He also excelled in wrestling and won the Nevada State High School Wrestling Championships in the heavy weight division. After graduating from High School he started studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is now a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In recent years he has become an accomplished Muay Thai Kickboxer.

Frank brought all of these skills to the ring where he has amassed one of the most impressive careers in MMA. His record currently stands at 13 wins and 5 losses. He has held the UFC Heavyweight Title twice. The first title win was June 19, 2004 via armbar on Tim Sylvia. The referee stopped the fight when Frank snapped Tim Sylvia’s arm during his attempt to submit Sylvia. The second title win was during UFC 92 when Frank Mir became the first person to TKO Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. It should be noted that Frank Mir never received an opportunity to defend his first title. He leg was badly injured in a motorcycle accident after he gained the title. The UFC stripped him of his title during his layoff.

Mir is one of the most feared heavyweights on the ground. In addition to Sylvia, Frank has also submitted Pete Williams, Dan Quinn, and Dave “Tank” Abbot. After Mir won his first fight by disqualification against Wes Sims, Mir came back in the second match and scored a knockout in the second round after delivering a combination of knees, strikes, and punches.

Frank Mir is sure to do his best to knockout or submit whomever he faces in the ring for years to come. Most recently at UFC 107 Frank won against Cheick Kongo by submission and is coming off of a loss against Shane Carwin. He is working his way back right now to another title shot and is set to face Mirko Cro Cop in UFC 119, September 25th, 2010.
