Frank Mir was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He started studying the Martial Arts at a young age at his fathers Karate Club. You could say he was born into the martial arts as both his mother and father are martial artists. Frank obtained his Black Belt in Kenpo Karate as a teenager. He also excelled in wrestling and won the Nevada State High School Wrestling Championships in the heavy weight division. After graduating from High School he started studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is now a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is also an accomplished Muay Thai Kickboxer.

Frank has brought all of these skills to the ring where he has amassed one of the most impressive records in MMA in the world. His record currently stands at 9 wins and 2 loss. He won the UFC Heavyweight Title on June 19, 2004 while attempting an armbar submission on Tim Sylvia. The fight was stopped by the referee when Frank snapped Tim Sylvia's arm during his attempt to submit Sylvia by an armbar. Also, Frank received quite a bit of recognition when he submitted Roberto Traven after beating him using Jiu Jitsu techniques rather than a ground and pound technique.

Frank has also submitted Pete Williams, Dan Quinn, and Dave "Tank" Abbot. He won one fight in the UFC due to the disqualification of Wes Sims in their first meeting when Wes Sims got disqualified for stomping. In his second meeting with Wes Sims, he scored a knockout in the second round after delivering a combination of knees, strikes, and punches and is sure to do his best to knockout or submit whomever he faces in the ring for years to come. Most recently at UFC 61 Frank won a unanimous decision against Dan Christison. Frank's losses in the Octagon have been to Ian Freeman and most recently to Marcio Cruz.

Frank is known to be one of the most technically gifted ground fighters in the sport in his weight class. He is said to be a big man who fights with the skills of the best small men. He respects the martial arts to no end and is a student of the game as he has devoted his life to mixed martial arts. He is a family man with a wife and three children. He trains and lives in his home town of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sadly I agree, Brock won the fight fair and square, but I would not say that Lesnar is the better fighter. Not only is Frank a better fighter, he is just better looking :)Lesnar isn't very well rounded. Brock just layed on poor Frank the whole match.(Not that Mr. Mir is defenceless because he is more than capable of defending himself) That knee at the end rocked Brock too, I was hoping Mir would be able to do something but Brock ended up laying on him until the end. I absolutly hated the way Brock acted after the fight. Not only does he whine and complain when he loses but he is just a poor sport all around. I hope in their next fight (if there is one) that Frank just knocks Brock out. and I mean knock him out, like a better KO than when Dan Henderson shut Bisbing up. that would be great.~ Frank you will get your belt back! Good luck and best of wishes to you~ *Ashleigh :)

I'am martial artist for nearly 30 years a true fighter and a champion knows how to RESPECT a fallen opponent. Mir has unfinish bussiness with Brock Lesnar.I agree as of now "No one is going to beat Brock" because of his Size, Strength and Speed. But with my 4'S assessment... Sytle beat the Size, Sytle beat the Strenght, Sytle beat the Speed and Brock has no Sylte and I belive Mir is coming back with a new Sytle never seen in MMA world. Please dont wait for Brock to learn Sytle if he does No comment???

Hey Frank!
Sorry about the loss to Lesnar... your jumping knee was close to finish him off... damit!!!

I think it would be best if the UFC split the heavyweight devision into two heavyweight classes...
* 205 - 235 as Heavyweight and
* 235 - 265 super heavyweight...

I among others that i'm talking to thinks it's the best for the weightclass.

Hope that you'll return to the Octagon in a near future... Godspeed and respect

I want to start off saying that I am a fan of Frank Mir. Brock Lesnar is an overgrown brute with poor sportsmanship. I would love to see Frank Mir beat Lesnars Ass Standing up (which he could do,) but due to Lesnars size and wrestling ability there is a slim chance of that happening. Frank Mir did a great job the first time he fought Lesnar and he deserved the win. But there is being too much emphisis put on that fight. I was hoping Mir would win but the fight but the fight I was seeing was not going well for Mir until the point where the leg lock was in place. I believe that if the fight were to continue Lesnar would have won. Brock Lesnar did not get LUCKY at UFC 100 either,he was clearly the better fighter so please quit making excuses why Frank Mir lost. Thank You. As much as it sucks...No one is going to beat Brock Lesnar any time soon, especially if lays on them like a helium bullfrog again.

I agree with you that Brock Lesnar won that fight fair and square...but to say he is a better fighter I disagree...Brock Lesnar is a good wrestler and moves very well for a man of his size....what he Brock does have is an size and strength advantage over other fighers....now the problem future opponents have, is trying to find sparring partners that have the size and strength of Brock Lesnar. Lets face it Brock is very is to hit and I think Frank proved that in there 2nd fight, of the second round, now the mistake Frank made was that he got into a clinch game and got taken down and traped on the octagon fence...and I believe that Frank thought he could get the submission, now if Frank took his time and played the striking game like he did with Nogueira I honestly believe that he would have won that fight....and you can't deny that Frank is far more talented than Brock.....Frank you looked like you were in the best shape of you life, keep it up, keep focused your time is now! believe and you will achieve

You say that Brock was "clearly the better fighter", yet you said yourself why brock can win, his size and strength, thats the ONLY way brock will ever win, he wouldnt stand a chance against mir or other figters in a stand up fight. Brock is not a well rounded fighter, he is too big, but that is his advantage. So far all I have seen of Brock is ground and pound. Did you notice at UFC 100 that brock let him up after one of the takedowns? haha He wasnt long taking him back down was he??? I think he realized he wasnt as good as Mir standing up, so he took him back down. Brock has a terrible attitude, even fingering the fans?? hahah, What an idiot! Yet how can anyone compare with the strength of this oversize dink? I personally think his fights are boring. Too bad there isnt a bigger Version of Anderson Silva, that guy is deadly!! Hopefully someone can stay up to beat Brock.

Frank-you have all the MMA skills to beat this Gorrilla. Focus on footwork, sprawl and stamina. Float like a butterfly sting like a bee. Ali-Foreman, Leonard-Hagler. When you had the flash combo in the second round Lesnar was not only rocked but he was lost and had only one option......take you to the ground. Work on you weaknesses your strengths will always be there.

Actually he probably does what most people do and use the shorter version of their name. You know like John being short for Johnny, Bill short for Billy or William maybe. You wouldn't understand that though. Brock Lesnar a world class athlete? It takes more athleticism to have a submission game and a knock out game. Lesnar will never submit anyone. Yeah he won UFC 100 in a fight that I think should have never been called, but not the refs fault. But that still doesn't make up for the time mir tapped his ass out. Lesnar TAPPED OUT, which basically means his pussy ass gave up. That's athleticism.

Dear Mr. Mir,

Don't worry about the loss to that no class hack... I don't even call that a fight; laying on top of someone not doing much. Lesnar really was shook up when you dropped a couple knees and that punch. Your a true champ and I can't wait till you get to face him again a beat his ass. I really became a fan of yours when you did a couple of interviews and talked about your kids and family first and fighting second... I was watching this fight with some friends (who of course are lesnar fans, because they watch that fake bullshit wrestling) and it was really hard to take there shit all night. You are awesome and I know u will rebound. Take some time off, enjoy your life and when u come back to fight that overweight piece of crap, beat his ass quietly. No interviews on how u can beat him or how he fights his fights. Just show up take his belt and let him cry...

Frank Mir is a great fighter. Much more skilled than Brock, but Frank is not a true heavy weight. There is only 1 true heavy weight in the UFC by the standard that folk,free-style, or greco-roman wrestling uses. Even in the UFC for that matter, every other weight class of fighter cuts weight to make weight. Frank is a big man, but undersized to compete with the likes of Brock unless he can ring his bell before Brock takes him down. This next season of the TUF is going to be great. It looks like they are going to get some true heavy weights with athletic ability. I saw what you had said on another site about power lifting and gaining some weight. Good plan. You are definitely a smart fighter. I am a Lesnar fan only because I like ground and pound and fighters that move forward all the time, not because of his antics. Good luck with your next fights. I am your fan too.

Hey Frank, I was hoping you'd put the lockdown on Brock...but despite what happened, you're still the best in my book. It's not just about winning fights all the time, but how you carry yourself and much respect for you on the class you showed even after losing the fight saturday. Personally, I felt the ref allowed too much time while Brock was on you without much activity. I know you were hangin' in there, just waiting for him to leave an opening. I did notice he couldn't keep up with you in the second round when the two of you were exchanging punches just before he took you to the mat. Keep your head up and I know you'll bounce back even stronger...I'm hoping to eventually see you and Fedor in the octagon one day!!

Frank...you need to train with a few Monks & get your mental preparation together for Lesnar's Mental & Physco Aggressiveness...This is why Shaolin meditation is such an important part of the Shaolin martial arts training. Meditation may not be literally practicing your physical tools, but it allows your mind to make better use of those tools.

To: Mr. Frank Mir

I look forward to seeing pictures from UFC 100 like the ones you have on your previous Lesner fight.
I'd love to see a slow motion video of the last 20 seconds or so of the fight. You showed some excellent defensive moves. Hopefully the ref won't prematurely stop the next fight. We all know you were playing possum and were just waiting for your chance to spring on Brock. Good luck getting that nose back in place.

Hi Frank,

Keep your head up. I thought you were doing well, and I kind of see what the game plan was. It looked like Brock was getting gas out on the second round; unfortunately Herb Dean gave him too much time to sit on you. “Bad call on his part”
You came out in the second with a couple of nice strikes; I wish you could have gotten a few more in….
Anyway I’ve followed you for sometime now, and I think you’re one of the best we have, please keep up the good work…..
I’ll be watching the next time you get a chance to correct the outcome of this one…

I hope you bounce back off this loss quick and destroy Brock Lesnar the next time around. I hate listening to all these people talking about how they need to bring in Fedor to take him out. Well in regard to the fight i think brock got damn lucky that that knee didnt knock him out, but either way you guys are 1-1 and your still one of my favorite fighters, not to mention you have respect for your opponent. Brock wins all his fights win caveman strength and size - not impressive. I also dont believe he has proven himself after his first "good" win. couture was too small, and herring wasnt good enough. anyway i am very impressed with the fight for you and know you win continue to be the fighter i know you to be.

The important thing is that you watch that film and study what you did wrong and how you can fix those mistakes . The only thing Brock's got on you is size pound for pound your a better fighter . So you get back in the weight room , live , sleep , and eat Brock. You'll get your chance again and when you do , make him pay.
